I got a can of mixed nuts, found that the foil top under plastic lid is expanded. Is this ok? To this day I am suspicious of anything like this - I was 5 when we all got sick from canned spaghetti sauce. My poor mom - it started during the middle of the night! Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Nuts can go bad pretty quickly. I would toss them. You would hate to get or make others sick. Sorry.

As long as the foil is intact it should be ok. Look on the bottom of the can and see what the best by date is. Open the can and taste one, you can tell if they are good or not. I just checked some that have been in the cupboard that have been previously opened(they have a plastic lid for resealing like a coffee can) and they were fine. Best buy date was Sept for them.

if you bought it recently and its not past date you could return it to the store..

They may add pressurized air to control breakage with shipping or something...call them if you don't want to open the can; if you do open it, a sniff or a bite into one nut should tell you if it's rancid or not.
