Can you believe a can of cola and a jar of catsup could make this sweet, tomato-y sauce?

I am so embarrassed! The fire department is going through the neighborhood offering free smoke detector checks(and batteries and new detectors). I had them come in telling them they all worked but they could check them anyway. The very first one didn't work, open it up and there is no battery in it! They put in a battery and it still didn't work so they replaced it for me with one that contains it's own battery good for ten years. Hubby called in the middle of it and says, oh, there is a new one in the garage I was going to put in. They filled out a form and asked about emergency fire escape, at least I have that one covered! The detectors(Kidde)and batteries(Energizer)are covered by grants from the companies. Kudos to them all!

So glad to hear you are set now. I wish the fire department would change the battery in a cathedral ceiling I cannot reach. I'd even offer them a beverage! Do not know why it is in such a stupid place. Got all the other alarms fixed up with new batteries and tested each one last month. Had to put the dogs outside while testing though.

May I ask what OT stands for? I understand how emportant ditectors can be. Three years ago my apartment building burnd down but I was not home at the time but I lost my 5 babys(cats)and everything else. I am glad you now have working detectors!

Seamus, how sad losing the fur babies and your things. Glad you are safe!

Wonderful that the fire department is doing that and you found out that yours was not working. I try to test mine every month; but sometimes I do not think the batteries are made very good... a few months ago, I opened a brand new pack of four and two of them were duds.

I "tested" mine yesterday when an apple pie boiled over into the bottom of my oven! Yup, it's working.
