I don't know why but I am curious if anyone one the buzz ever adds corn meal to their chili? I only found one recipe here that contains corn meal. Any suggestions?

The name says it all - this recipe starts from scratch so it has a lot of ingredients. Great for a crowd, just garnish with shredded mozzarella cheese, and use corn chips for dipping.

I just made this 2 weeks ago and I was happy with putting the cornmeal in it. It did give it a nice thickness that I was looking for. I enjoyed this chili very much.

I just put my pic on and reviewed and then came to recipebuzz to find this question. I love that! Really was happy with the time that this creator put into making a great chili.

Hello Soupy, I like cornmeal in chilie. In fact when I make beans and they are watery along with perfect amount of salt, and I need to tighten them up, I add cornmeal. Works great! !

I've never put it in my chili, but remember someone saying it can be used as a thickening agent for chili. Bet it gives some good flavor too. You should try it, review and let us know.

I like to put crumbled tortilla chips on top of my chili, so that seems like a similar taste perhaps. Oh gosh, now I'm wanting chili for dinner!

Indiana Peggy I am craving it now too. I was going to make turkey in the crock pot but I am having second thoughts now

A mixture of pork sausage and ground beef, slowly cooked with beans, lots of chili powder, cumin, and some masa harina flour gives this chili its prizewinning taste.

I made this recipe once. I hadn't read all the quantities carefully enough, and when I got to the chili powder, I almost fainted! I opted for much less! Otherwise, this was really good chili. Of course, I have a ton of that masa harina left----probably need to toss it by now!

I have never heard of masa harina. I had to google it. Sounds like this recipe would work too. If I replaced with corn meal. Thanks

I made chili just this past week that came with a small packet of masa flour with it. This was the first time using it and it turned out good. And soupy, I just read your blog on usernames. I loved reading it. So much fun to read. I think I need to print it out!

I made the recipe of the week yesterday in my crock pot...first chili of the season...oh soooo good. Leftovers tomorrow night.

No I've never added it, but it makes sense. I've read recipes for tamale pie with corn meal and I have added tortilla chips in dishes like Indiana Peggy. I think you may be on to something there lol.

I add a bit at the end of the cook time to thicken it up. We just had chili and this cornbread a few weeks ago when the weather turned cooler....sooooo good :)

I used Masa once to see if it would thicken in place of flour in my chili, worked great, I just threw a palmful in and stirred it up.
