Hi everybody! My request has been asked by many cooks in the past but for the life of me, I can't remember any suggestions! Our little town is caring for and supporting a young family who's beautiful wife and mother is dying of brain cancer, She is at home now but truly, it's a matter of days, possibly weeks. Please recommend dinners that I can make that are kid friendly - 8, 6 and 2 yr old. They are tired of spaghetti and enchiladas yet appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness. This the time for comfort food. Thank you, everyone! God bless you!

Oh how sad my heart aches for them; and how kind of you. Kids usually love Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes. I will see what else I can find.

Truly sad. My kids loved homemade chicken nuggets, fish sticks, individual pizzas with lots of their own toppings, gilled cheese sandwiches & tomato soup, Chocolate pudding "Dirt" cups, chocolate pudding, mix in crushed oreo cookies, add gummy worms on top, Blue Jellow fish bowls,- blue jello- add gold fish or gummy fish in clear plastic bowls- looks like a fish bowl. Also hot dog & chilli, chilli frito pie, mac & cheese, veggies & ranch dip. Good luck & god bless

Oh wow...that is so, so sad :( It hurts my heart to think of those precious babies losing their mama at such a young age. God bless your community for taking care of them. My suggestion is perhaps some kind of pulled pork or shredded beef that they can use for sandwiches. Another idea would be chicken and dumplings. I'm sorry...I don't have any specific recipes for these things, because I stink at making chicken and dumplings and I just kind of open the cupboard and toss stuff in the crock pot for pulled pork or shredded beef.

A delicious combo of German and Mexican food, these spicy cabbage rolls can be made in your slow cooker or pressure cooker - or they can be frozen and then baked.

These are a far cry from tamales but they are really good mexican cabbage rolls. You can go mild on these for the kiddos. What a heartbreaking story. Bless the community for caring for this family.

Thank you, Baking Nana! I'll make these and then freeze so they can have a meal from the freezer ready. This is why Randy and I will never move off this hill!

My girls love a chicken shepherd's pie. There's probably some name for it but I don't use a recipe so I don't know what it is. You can use rotisserie chicken or cook your own. Add gravy and shredded or cubed chicken and vegetables (most kids like peas and carrots as well as anything, I think). Heat that, put it into a shallow casserole and pipe or spoon mashed potatoes on top. Bake it near the top of the oven long enough so that the potatoes brown a little on top. Easy and comforting as well as pretty nutritious. I can also say that when she passes, the thing we appreciated a lot was a cold cut tray and hard rolls. I really didn't feel much like eating or dirtying dishes when my partner passed but I could grab a sandwich when I was hungry those first few days. Bless you and your efforts to comfort the family. If the husband isn't managing well and especially if they have people come that will be at their house, you might consider a "care package" including paper plates, napkins and cups, plastic silverware, paper towels and, yes, toilet paper. Just that much less for the family to have to think about.

Fabulous ideas, janet7th! I love the care package idea. I have plenty of paper goods, etc. in the downstairs pantry.

Thank you, Savvy! This is our favorite also. I think that I'll make individual pot pies. The kiddos would probably like that idea. I am not talented at a lot of things but I can cook and have lots of love to give to everyone, Savvy!
