When making a beef stew with a dark beer, what are your suggestions? I don't want to use Guinness.

susanb, if you can find a cream or milk stout, use it! I love St. Peter's Cream Stout (purple label) for stews, but they were out of it recently. So the beer store lady found me Left Handed Brewery's Milk Stout (cow on label), and it was just delicious. I use the Beer Baked Beef recipe on here, and jazz the beef with plenty of Montreal seasoning, FYI.

Hi, Normally can use stout, but watch whether sweet or not, depends on your taste. Can use newcastle brown ale or any real ale sold in bottles. In UK masses but don'tknow your market. Look for ales and you'll find something. Sorry a bit rambly but hope helps. cheers.

I'm with Don on this one; a dark ale, Kilkenny, Sleemans come to mind.
