Inkbrain is looking for: (10 recommendations)
Hi all - I need some quick ideas. I have volunteered to cook dinner tonight for what I am realizing is a pickiest bunch of people. I am cooking for my husband and his grandma. Here's who I have. My husband is picky in that he doesn't like things that seem really new. He doesn't like things that have lots of ingredients mixed together - think a casserole. His grandma is a down home kind of cook. She doesn't like spicy. She doesn't like a lot of vegetables - particularly raw ones. I think if I stayed in chicken or beed I'd be pretty good. But I don't want to do the same old stuff, you know? Any ideas are so much appreciated!!

Oh and I should say that I had some really good recipes for meatloaf and salisbury steak that my husband all of the sudden decided he didn't like. So anything like those would probably be a miss.

This was the winning dish. Not all of it because I didn't have time. But I made the sauce and put it over spaghetti. It was hit and she's thrilled to have leftovers for a few days! It's my favorite lasagna recipe - I need to make a batch again.

Breaded chicken stuffed with ham and cheese sounds pretty pedestrian, but it tastes extraordinary. This recipe includes an easy cream sauce to boot.

These are delicious and fairly simple. The last time I made it I did it even easier by simply laying the chicken in a dish, putting a slice of canadian bacon on the top of each one, adding the sauce, then topped it with the cheese, then the breadcrumbs. Serve with roasted potatoes or rice, and whatever veggies they will eat.

I have never had someone that doesn't like this recipe. Take two cans of cream of mushroom soup and 16oz. container of sour cream. Mix these together and combine boneless skinless chicken breats in a casserole dish and bake in the oven. You can serve over mashed potatoes or rice. I usually add a salad or aspargus! hope this helps!!

Two words for picky eaters: "Golden Corral". No reservations needed.

Kuckily, most people in my family love all kinds of food and the spicier the better. But when I had to cook for picky "plain food" eaters, I just relied on the basic- roast chicken and gravy, with mashed potatoes, and maybe a different veggie. Cook green beans with onions and chicken broth, maybe do a nice tossed salad. For the more adventurous, add another dish , like Alison's Broccoli salad, etc.

I feel your pain. I came from a family who's mother was one of those down home cooks and dad was sooo soo soo picky!! not sure what you are wanting but my father and mothers favorites were meat and potatoes with gravy. and canned veggies. LOL how about a swiss steak (as my mother used to call it) use a flat cut of chuck steak, rub both sides with 1-2 tablespoons kitchen bouquet here's a link but this price is outrageous. It's only a dollar or two in the grocery store *** http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Bouquet-Browning-Seasoning-bottle/dp/B005UG3S8A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339364101&sr=8-2&keywords=kitchen+bouquet *** season with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, also on both sides. Sear on each side using water not oil. once water is gone turn. when seared on second side. add enoughh water or beef broth to almost cover and add 1-2 large yellow onions cut in half down the middle and sliced into thin slices. cover and simmer at a low simmer for about an hour and a half. check for tenderness. if it needs more cook time just recover and let cook. once done gently remove from the liquid. use cornstarch and water mixture to thicken the broth. then add the meat back to the gravy cover and turn way down. make the potatoes and mom used to make green beans (from the can) with real bacon bits, onion and garlic salt and pepper. that should fly.

Easy Waldorf and Raisin Salad

This appealing recipe puts a healthy spin on classic Waldorf salad. Crunchy apples, celery and pecans, juicy pineapples and chewy raisins are dressed with reduced-fat mayonnaise and sour cream. Janice Smith of Cynthiana, Kentucky suggests serving the salad in a lettuce-lined bowl.

It may be too late for tonight's dinner, but I made this today. My mother loved Waldorf salad. It was very refreshing, even with lower fat ingredients.
