Good morning! We were out all afternoon and early evening yesterday so we ended up having McDonalds for supper. A few hours later we all had belly aches. My question to you is what do you make for supper when you are short on time that would use ingredients most people have on hand? TIA for any suggestions!

This is a wonderful staple of the Pennsylvania Coal Region. It's the traditional 'sweet and sour'. Delicious on a hamburger bun.

I also usually have a bag of BLSL breast around and, even if they're frozen, they are easy to cook up.

I make a strognoff. I usually double it also. 1 lb ground beef cooked with onion, 2 cups cooked white rice, approx 1 cup sour cream, 1 can cream of mushroom soup. I just stir it together and heat it up.

You could probably get away with PB&J sandwiches, especially with little ones. Yopu can't get any faster than that!

This is the way to get crisp bacon without having to constantly turn it, watch over it, or get burnt by splatters of grease. It 'fries' up flat and doesn't curl, which looks great beside a breakfast plate of eggs, and makes BLT sandwiches much easier. Very nice when feeding a family or crowd.

I cook 2 lbs at a time, putting on racks and cooking at higher temp. Takes longer than 10 minutes, but then bag and freeze. Pull out as you need it. Instant BLT's. Or bacon grilled cheese!

Lately I have been making wonton soup. I make the wontons one day put them on a cookie sheet and freeze them. Then I put in a freezer bag. It is easy to take out what you need and drop it in some chicken broth. Takes minutes to cook and then you are eating. Just keep broth on hand or good quality bouillon cubes.

Yesterday I made egg salad sandwiches and served with a green salad. Sometimes I'd make pasta with a jarred sauce. I also like the raviolis at the store butoni and I will make that with the light alfredo sauce and garlic bread and boiled corn. I also like mashed potatoes with roasted veggies.

Wontons made me think of these. I have made them(with a little tweaking, I use coleslaw mix)and frozen. Then just reheat in the microwave or oven.

I usually crockpot cook 3-6 lbs of boneless chicken breasts on a day when I have time (they shred and package 1 into 1 quart bags for freezing..I SET ASIDE ENOUGH FOR THE SOUP WE WILL BE NOW MAKING) I add extra broth to the crockpot broth already their in the crockpot along with spices and veggie cook until done then add in the reserved chicken allow to mix for 30 mins yields dinner one time then I take the soup (boil egg noodles and add to the soup and freeze in plastic containers for dinners (individual servings or 2 quarts at a time whatever your family prefers..I prefer single so everyone can pick the soups they want..When it comes to quick meals soup has it just remove frozen and run under tap water to pop from containers place in nuke able container or stove top pan or (even back into a crockpot earlier in the day)

Take a few days and make a few different HOMEMADE soups your family would eat and freeze them..You can also make a few meals as well example Lasagna or Spaghetti and place into individual containers to nuke for quick dinners along with a homemade salad that takes less then 15 mins to prep.

I have substituted a 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes (undrained) for the tomato soup; works just as well.
