I have a 4 pound beef roast in a 5 quart slow cooker with red potatoes, baby carrots, celery, and onion with a can of chicken broth. I am cooking it on HIGH. I am trying to get the roast to the "cut with a fork" tender. How long should I let it cook??

I think your suppose to sear the meat first (I haven't done it like that yet but saw on a cooking show!) My DH always tells me to leave it on high for an hour then turn low till it's done. Probably take like 5 hrs? I dunno GL

It may depend on the type of roast, your slow cooker, and whether or not the meat was seared first. I would estimate at least six hours on low, but it will vary a lot.

And I do usually start on low for an hour and then go to high, as Meat Legs suggested. Otherwise it can take an hour or two just to get the cooking started!
