"Many years ago, while on an out of town trip, a few friends and I sampled a deep dish buttermilk pie that had a buttery and flaky pie crust, firm and not overly sweet custard center, and a semi crunchy caramel top that just melted in your mouth. Everyone who sampled the pie fell in love and asked me to figure out the recipe. After years of trying to locate that particular pie recipe, I gave up and decided to create my own. After multiple revisions and honest critiques by my ever so picky critics, a star was born! I now am able to present to you my award winning Buttermilk Pie recipe. Enjoy!"

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar.
  3. Beat in flour and salt.
  4. Add the eggs and mix until incorporated only.
  5. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla. Do not beat mixture.
  6. Pour into pie shell.
  7. Shake to combine topping ingredients in separate bowl and generously apply to top of pie.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  9. Reduce temperature to 325 degrees and bake 1 hour, or until filling is set.
