  1. Chop onion and green pepper and put in a large bowl with fresh or drained canned 'shrooms.
  2. In a large skillet, brown hamburger and set aside, without draining.
  3. While meat is browning, microwave rice according to package directions (90 seconds) and make gravy (below).
  4. Put gravy mix and 1-1/2 C. water in a small saucepan on medium heat, stirring often. When gravy begins to bubble, turn heat down to low and simmer for 1 minute.
  5. Add chopped veggies and garlic (if used) to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, till tender, about 7 minutes.
  6. Add the meat back to the pan, add the gravy and rice. Stir to mix well.
  7. Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes stir again and serve.
