Over medium heat in a 4 qt stock pot sauté onions in butter until translucent, season with salt and pepper, add garlic. Sauté two more minutes, add V8, tomatoes, basil and sugar. Break up the tomatoes with a potato masher. Bring almost to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer covered for 1 hour. Working in small batches, transfer to a blender and blend thoroughly. Return to stock pot. Add cayenne pepper, season salt and cream, simmer on low 10 min or until ready to serve.
