  1. Preheat oven to 450­°F
  2. mix dry ingredients together well
  3. cut in shortening/butter until it resembles a course meal (using two knives or a pastry cutter)
  4. add milk and mix until moistened and sticking together
  5. turn out onto floured surface
  6. knead gently 20 times
  7. roll out or flatten to about 1/2 inch thick, cut (or shape as desired)
  8. bake on an ungreased pan, close together for soft sides or apart for crustier sides for 8 - 10 minutes
