"This is a simple recipe for old-fashioned southern style buttermilk biscuits. Rich and flavorful with a nice crisp crust. They're great for breakfast, as a change of pace for dinner bread, or (my personal favorite) with any type of BBQ."

  1. Preheat oven to 425F
  2. Grease baking sheet with cooking spray, butter, or shortening
  3. Using a sifter, sift flour into a large mixing bowl. Add salt and gently mix.
  4. Soften butter without melting. Knead butter into flour with your hands.
  5. Slowly pour buttermilk into flour mixture and mix with hands. You won't consume all of the flour. Continue adding buttermilk until the mixture is soft and fluid, but not runny.
  6. Form batter into palm sized balls, roll the moist batter in the remaining dry flour to lightly coat, and place onto baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 425F for 20-25 minutes, until biscuits are golden brown.
  8. (optional) Brush melted butter over tops of biscuits 5 minutes before removing from oven.
