  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Boil water, add raisins and continue boiling for one minute.
  3. Add baking soda, stir and remove from heat to cool.
  4. Cream butter and sugar together.
  5. Add eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt.
  7. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture and combine.
  8. Strain raisins and add to batter.
  9. Add nuts if using.
  10. Drop by tablespoonful onto parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.
