"This is that recipe you have been searching for! This was handed down through generations of our family and the beauty of this cake is in the subtle notes of flavor from the spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg"
For the cake, preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 13x9 pan, set aside. In a medium bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Mix in the eggs, blend until combined, then blend in buttermilk. Get out a paper plate, set a sifter on top of it and into the sifter put the flour, baking soda and spices and sift together onto the plate, then transfer the flour mix to the bowl, folding in until moistened, then mixing til combined with your hand/stand mixer. When mixed, stir in raisins, then pour into pan and smooth top with spatula. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Let cool completely, then assemble the glaze in a small bowl, stirring until smooth, and pour over cake, using spatula to cover in a thin layer. Cut and serve!
