BBQ Sauce

BBQ Sauce

Chef CJ 1

"I use this as a base for all my BBQ sauces, but it's perfectly delicious just as it is. When I BBQ all the smoke flavor is in the meat, and that's what I believe real BBQ is. Therefore I do not add any liquid smokes to my BBQ sauce. I've traveled the BBQ belt and this recipe will give you a similar flavor profile to many joints you might find between KC and TN."

  1. Combine ingredients into a glass pyrex measuring cup or other microwave safe container. Mix ingredients until fully incorporated.
  2. Microwave for 2 - 4 minutes until heated through and the spices release their flavors.
  3. Let the sauce cool and serve at room temperature. The sauce will taste extra spicy if served hot. Cooling the sauce will mild the intensity of the Chipotle and allow the other flavors to develop.
  4. (Optional) Add 1 tablespoon of liquid smoke. Or add an extra 1/4 cup of water and put your sauce in the smoker for 1 - 2 hours.
