  1. **Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)
  2. **In a medium bowl, cream together shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar. stir in the eggs, then the vanilla.
  3. **In a medium bowl, sift together: flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Gradually stir into the creamed mixture until well blended.
  4. **In a small bowl, stir together the 2tbsp sugar and the 2tsp cinnamon.
  5. **Roll dough into walnut sized balls, then roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place them onto
  6. an unprepared cookie sheet, two inches apart.
  7. **Bake for 8 to 9 minutes in preheated oven - dges should be slightly brown. Let sit on cookie sheet
  8. for two minutes, then move to wire rack (or wax paper) to cool.
