"This recipe is a combination of other recipes I found but none of them pulled it together like this one. Great because it's a make-the-night-before dish. Use any bread you like but it's killer with French bread or any crusty type of bread. You can use any type of sausage you like and add any type of fruit like raisins, blueberries or apples."
Butter a 9x11 baking dish and spread torn bread evenly about 2 “layers” high. Cook, crumble and drain sausage. Spread sausage over bread and ruffle bread lightly so some sausage gets to bottom of dish. Top with shredded cheese. Beat all remaining ingredients. Pour evenly over bread and sausage mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove dish from refrigerator about 20 minutes before baking. Bake at 375 degrees for 40+ minutes until top is puffed up and golden brown and center of the casserole is "set". Serve with warm maple syrup.
