Pour the boiling water into a marinating dish and add the sugar, stirring to dissolve. Add all of the remaining ingredients. For pork, it is best to cut it in thin strips and marinate for no less than 4 hours in the fridge before broiling.
For beef, marinate whole steaks or strips overnight, 12- 16 hours in the refidgerator, turning occasionally, then cook as usual. Both of these meats served over basmati rice are always a hit. Toasted sesame seeds add to the meat.
