  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Lightly grease 2 9 x 5-inch loaf pans
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening or oil and the sugar.
  4. Beat in the eggs, pumpkin, and water.
  5. Add the flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and vanilla using a mixer to blend.
  6. Then mix in the chocolate chips.
  7. Spoon the batter into the 2 greased loaf pans.
  8. Bake the bread for 1 hour, or until a toothpick when inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  9. Remove the bread from the oven and cool on a rack.
