"My wife and I found this recipe in an old cookbook we picked up at a yardsale not long after we married. Making this recipe has become a yearly family tradition which ususally starts about the week before Halloween and goes through Thanksgiving.
Follow the directions closely, use precise measurements and make sure your oven is preheated. Turn on the oven the minute you decide to make this recipe.
Using vegetable spray will make this recipe a disappointment. Don't skimp, use butter to grease your loaf pans."
Mix sugar and oil in electric mixer. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Add pumkin. In separate bowl, sift flour, then add all spices and sift again. Add to pumpkin mixture by adding one cup at a time and blending well. Pour into two greased (with butter) and floured loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for for 55-60 minutes (check at about 45 minutes). do not over bake.
If you like, you can fold in 1 cups raisins and 1 cup walnuts just before pouring into loaf pans.
