Hungarian Goulash Traditional Style

"Hungarian goulash is a style of beef stew that has a spicier taste then traditional beef stew with sweet but tangy paprika and caraway flavor. You may increase the amount of paprika to suit personal taste. It has been one of my favorite dish for years. I hope you enjoy it as much as me."

  1. Recipe can be prepared in slow cooker or in the oven using an oven bag. If using oven bag preheat oven at 350 flour bag as direct on package. Cook bacon in pan till crispy then crumble and save 3 tsp bacon fat. Flour beef on all sides brown in bacon fat over medium high heat. If not using bacon brown meat in 3 tsp cooking oil.
  2. In large mixing bowl whisk water, flour, thyme, rosemary, bouillon, caraway, pepper, paprika, marjoram, salt, and garlic. Add tomatoes, onions, carrots, potatoes, bacon and meat. Mix to coat and pour into slow cooker or oven bag. If using slow cooker set to either low and cook for 10 hours or high for 5 hours. For oven bags follow bag package instructions cook for 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Can be served as is or over noodles with sour cream.


Okay and probably 3.5 stars, but I did adjust it abit so gave it the benefit of the doubt. Didn't have an oven bag and not enough time to use the slow cooker so I baked it in a covered dutch ove...
