  1. Wash and rinse the rice.
  2. Heat the oil and then add onions and meat. Cook until meat is done.
  3. Add salt, pepper, turmeric, tomato sauce, and 5 1/2 cups of water.
  4. Add the rinsed rice to the pot and lower the heat with the lid on.
  5. Cook on low mixing often to keep from sticking.
  6. When almost all the water boils away leave the lid on but adjust the heat to very low.
  7. Simmer for another 15 minutes.
