  1. Cut up ham into bite size pieces. Fry for about 4 minutes in 1 tablespoon butter.
  2. Place garlic, and vegetables in pot with 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook over medium high heat until onions are translucent.
  3. Add ham bone and can of beans (undrained)
  4. Add water to desired thickness, salt, pepper, and bay leaves.
  5. Simmer about 25 minutes. Remove bone and bay leaves to serve.
