  1. Making the dressing:
  2. In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients for the dressing except the oil.
  3. Bring to the boiling point, then add the oil, mix and return to the boiling point before removing from the heat.
  4. Making the coleslaw:
  5. Chop the cabbage finely and then sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Place half of the cabbage in a container, cover with onion slices, then cover with the remaining cabbage.
  7. Pour the hot dressing over top, do NOT mix.
  8. Cover and refrigerate immediately.
  9. Chill for 24 hours before tossing and serving.
