Original recipe yields 4 servings

  1. Wash and dice all of the vegetables.
  2. Place butter in a medium sauce pan, set to medium and melt butter.
  3. Once butter is melted, add the minced garlic and diced vegetables.
  4. Set temperature setting to medium high and saute vegetables until onions are translucent and soft and the carrots are also soft. Stir regularly.
  5. Once vegetables are cooked down, approximately 10 minutes, then add the beef broth and one cup of the merlot. Cover and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, reduce heat to medium, leave covered.
  6. After simmering for 20 min, strain solids from the mixture and return the fluid to the sauce pan, setting the temperature back to medium high.
  7. Add remainder of the merlot, and stir. Bring the liquid to a simmer and leave uncovered. Reduce until you have about 1/4 of the original amount of liquid remaining.
  8. Remove from heat and serve.
