"A spin-off from others - uses Italian sausage and cured ham (or ham hocks) for a simple to make, but absolutely delicious dish. Even my hubby, who doesn't generally care about bean dishes loves it. Enjoy!"

  1. Cover beans with water in a soup pot and soak overnight. Drain and rinse.
  2. Put beans back in pot and cover with chicken broth.
  3. Saute onions, sausage, and garlic in a frypan; add to soup pot.
  4. Toss in a ham hock, red pepper, and black pepper.
  5. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Enjoy!!
