In a bowl, cream sugar and shortening, add champagne and mix well (will appear lumpy). Add baking powder. Blend again. Add the flour.
In a small bowl, pour about 1/2 cup sprinkles.
Pull apart spoonfuls of dough and roll into a ball. If it's too sticky, you can add more flour.
Roll the edge of the ball in sprinkles (you can also roll the whole cookie in sprinkles if you want) and place on cookie sheet, about 2-inches apart. When cookie sheet is full, use fingers or bottom of glass to press cookies down.
Bake 12-14 minutes until cookies are lightly crisp
