"This is a a tomato soup recipe I created using the freshest farm grown tomatoes, but it works just as well with canned, too. I like making a big batch and filling up empty jars for family and friends."

  1. Chop onion and garlic, saute slowly in olive oil until softened. Add bay leaf and saute 2 minutes more.
  2. Add tomatoes, mixing slightly, and add chicken broth. Bring to a boil and boil gently for 20 minutes.
  3. Turn down, add thyme, balsamic, cayenne, sour cream and chopped basil leaves.
  4. Blend off the heat with an immersion blender and finish with salt, pepper, sugar and gin.
  5. Cook on low 5-10 minutes more. Ladle into bowls and enjoy.
