"I got this recipe 30+ years ago from a neighbor's mother who lived in Italy. It is delicious and always is well received. Sub all or part of the ground beef and sausage for turkey or chicken products to lighten the recipe."

  1. In a large pot, place both cans on tomato puree.
  2. Heat over medium low heat
  3. Slice the sausages into bite size pieces.
  4. In a separate skillet, brown the ground chuck and the sausage slices.
  5. Season the beef and sausage with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Drain off almost all of the meat fat and add the meat mixture to the puree
  7. Brown the onion and garlic in the leftover beef fat and add to the puree
  8. Add the water and tomato paste to the skillet and heat over low heat for 15 minutes. Add to the tomato puree.
  9. Sprinkle the puree with the spices and the parmesan cheese.
  10. Simmer over low, medium low heat for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
