Perfect oatmeal for one

"I realize this is a pretty ridiculous thing to post as a recipe, but I've been tinkering with different combinations of water/oatmeal/spices, and I think I've come up with my own favorite recipe. It's not overpoweringly sweet or seasoned, but has a nice balance. It also isn't too thick or too thin (though this is an area where reasonable opinions can differ)."

  1. Grind allspice and peppercorns to a fine powder using mortar and pestle.
  2. Mix all ingredients (except butter, if using) in microwave safe bowl. Make sure you get all the powdered spices out of the mortar (might need to use your finger or a spoon to scrape it out).
  3. Microwave on high for 3 minutes (time may vary depending on your microwave oven).
  4. Add butter, if using. I've found it's just as tasty without.
  5. Stir continuously for approximately 1-3 minutes while the oatmeal is cooling -- it will continue to thicken.
  6. Enjoy.
