Down South Buttermilk Biscuits

"This is a traditional recipe well known by southern women here in SC, GA and NC. They are good from breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also use this as a base recipe to add cheddar cheese, garlic, etc. Enjoy!"

  • Ready In

  1. preheat over to 450
  2. combine dry ingredients
  3. cut butter in tablespoons and combine with flour
  4. add buttermilk and mix until just combined (the key is not to handle the dough too much)
  5. add more buttermilk until it is a nice dough consistancy
  6. turn the dough out onto a floured table
  7. pat the dough to a 1/2 inch, do not use a rolling pin
  8. use a round biscuit cutter and cut close
  9. place the biscuits touching in a pan
  10. bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown
  11. note** if you use the scrapes to make additional biscuits this dough will be handled too much and the biscuits will be harder and dry
