Overnight Baked French Toast with Orange Pecan Cream Cheese Filling

"This is not your traditional fried french toast, it's more like a custard bread pudding-like french toast. The insides will be soft and delicious from soaking overnight, and flavorful with this cream cheese filling."

  1. In a bowl, combine eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon; set aside.
  2. Slice loaf into 12 1" slices.
  3. In a mixer combine cream cheese, brown sugar, zest and juice, mix well until softened.
  4. Spread some of this between half of the french bread slices, top with a second slice to make a sandwich, sprinkle with some pecans.
  5. Arrange sandwiches in a 9x13 baking dish.
  6. Pour egg mixture over all in pan (the bread will absorb most of this by morning).
  7. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hrs or overnight.
  8. Remove each sandwich from pan and place on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Garnish with additional pecans and zest.
  10. Bake uncovered at 350' for 35-40 minutes.
