So I took parts from many different traditional recipes and added my own personal touches and viola, an American plum pudding suitable for any cook, and any holiday."

  1. preheat oven to 325*
  2. Generously grease a two qt baking dish or mold with shortning and set aside.
  3. In food processor or blender, blend plums and syrup, all spices, set aside.
  4. In large bowl cream together butter, sugar, salt, extract, vanilla, egg yolks, and milk, adding one at a time.
  5. By hand blend in grated orange, and the rest of the ingredients except the egg whites.
  6. Fold in the plum mixture and combine well, then fold in the egg whites.
  7. Pour into greased mold then place into a large shallow baking dish in oven.
  8. Fill pan ½ full with water and steam the pudding in the oven for four hours.
  9. Refilling the pan every hour as needed.
  10. Set pudding with a simple custard sauce or top with whipped cream.
  11. Serve warm or room temp.
