Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a large casserole dish or baking pan with butter.
Melt 3 tbsp of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook until crumbled and just cooked through.
Put the stuffing cubes into a large bowl and add the sausage along with the drippings.
Melt 6 tbsp of butter in the skillet and then add the onion, celery, apple, and salt. Cook until the onion and celery are soft.
Add the broth and the remainder of the seasonings and bring to a boil.
Pour the mixture over the bread cubes as you stir. Toss to evenly moisten then mix in the pecans and eggs.
Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and drizzle about 3 tbsp of melted butter over the top. Return to oven and bake another 30 minutes or until top is crispy.
