  1. Brown ham in skillet if you like it browned
  2. Put everything in large slow cooker
  3. Add ham bone if you have it
  4. Add water until everything is covered
  5. Set cooker to high, bring to a boil then set to low
  6. Start cooking at 9am soup is done at about 4pm
  7. Low fat version
  8. Strain solids out
  9. Refrigerate solids and liquid separately over night
  10. Skim off fat from liquid
  11. Recombine and keep refrigerated
