Buttermilk Sugar Cookies


"I worked at a restaurant years ago and a lady that would come in every Friday gave me this recipe. I didn't know if I'd like the cookies because of the buttermilk, but trust me, they are delicious! Definitely the BEST cookies I have ever tasted!"

  1. Cookies- Mix the buttermilk and baking soda in small bowl;set aside. Sift the flour and baking powder in medium to large bowl; set aside. Cream sugar and butter in large bowl until smooth. Add the eggs, salt, and vanilla; mix until eggs are well blended. Add the buttermilk and flour mixture alternately.
  2. Chill overnight.
  3. Roll cookies to 1/4 inch thickness. Bake at 350 degree for 10-12 minutes. *Do not let the cookies brown*
  4. Frosting-Mix butter, crisco, salt, and vanilla until creamy. Add the powder sugar slowly, mixing after each addition. Add the warm milk until the frosting reaches desired consistency.
  5. Frost cookies and enjoy!
