  1. Bring water to a vigorous boil in a large pot
  2. Drop in asparagus and boil for 1 minute, or until asparagus is bright green and slightly tender.
  3. Remove from heat and plunge into cold water to cool down.
  4. Drain asparagus and dry well.
  5. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Add garlic and saute 1 minute.
  7. Add asparagus, saute for five minutes or until asparagus is tender.
  8. Salt and pepper to taste and serve.
