Rich and Cheesy Macaroni Bake

"My sister finally got a great recipe for a macaroni and cheese bake. I'm not sure how she got it but, it was a hand written recipe. This is a great dish that has become a staple side dish in all our family major dinners, including Thanksgiving."

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions drain. Place in greased 2 ½ qt baking dish. In a saucepan, melt 4tbsp of butter. Stir in flour, salt, and sugar stir until smooth, gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil: cook and stir for 2 mins or until thickened. Reduce heat; stir in Velveeta until melted, stir in cottage cheese and sour cream. Pour over macaroni sprinkle with sharp cheddar cheese. Melt remaining butter and toss with bread crumbs; sprinkle over top. Bake uncovered @350 for 30 mins.
