  1. Grease a 9 inch square cake pan and line bottom with parchment paper if desired
  2. Melt the butter, sugar, and molasses in a saucepan over low heat and allow to cool slightly after blended together
  3. Stir in the buttermilk, beaten egg, and cooled buttery liquid
  4. Stir in the chopped apples
  5. Mix everything together gently and pour into prepared pan
  6. Bake in preheated oven at 325 for 30-35 minutes
  7. Allow to cool and cut into 12 bars
  8. Serve with a dessert sauce, such as lemon sauce
