In the bottom of a 3 or 4 qt. pot with a lid, saute onions and garlic in oil over medium heat until golden and fragrant. Add sausage; cook, stirring to prevent sticking, 6 minutes. Sausage will be only partly cooked. Add beans,broth and seasonings to the pot, and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmering and cook 10 minutes. Stir kale into pot, in batches if necessary. Cover and cook 4 minutes, until kale is done, stirring a few times.
