Aunt Footsie's Banana Cream Pudding

  1. In dutch oven or lg. heavy-bottomed pan, combine sugar, flour, & salt. Stir in milk.
  2. Cook on Medium-high, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. Whisk yolks in sm. bowl. Whisk small amount of hot mixture into yolks.
  4. Pour yolk mixture into hot mixture. Cook, stirring constantly for 2 more minutes.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Stir in butter and vanilla till butter is melted.
  7. In trifle bowl or Large mixing bowl:
  8. Spread about 1 c of pudding in bottom of bowl.
  9. Then layer:
  10. wafers (also put vertical along sides of bowl for nice presentation), sliced bananas (placed close together), and pudding (there is enough pudding to use thick layers of pudding).
  11. Continue layering until bowl is almost full - leave enough room for whipped cream topping.
  12. Cover with plastic wrap and chill min. 2 hrs. Just before serving, top with Cool Whip or whipped cream. Chill left-overs - if there is any.
  13. The ALL-TIME BEST COMFORT FOOD! Diet tomorrow. If you HAVE to cut some of the calories, you can leave out the butter, but it won't be as rich. Enjoy!
