"I learned how to make this caramel corn in Home Ec; Paper bags "stir" the mix and everything else is made in the microwave so it's super easy! An easy recipe to start teaching kids and adults alike the basics of cooking- just watch out as the mix can and will burn!! Recipe is easily halfed for lesser yeild."
Remove unpopped kernels and place corn in large brown paper bag (be careful that there are no rips or tears in the bag. Double-bagging will help ensure that the bag will not break during the processes.)
In a glass bowl, combine sugar, butter, Karo and salt. Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds, stir. *Please watch mixture as higher-wattage microwaves -will- drastically effect cooking time and burnt caramel smells terrible!* Microwave for another 30 seconds, until boiling. Then microwave for another 3 minutes, watching mix carefully. Remove from microwave and add baking soda, stirring until foamy (add more salt if necessary). Carefully pour caramel mixture in to paper bags and roll top down to seal tightly. Microwave for another 30 seconds - 1 minute, then shake the bag up and down, side to side very vigourously. Microwave for another 30 seconds, shake, and microwave/shake one more time. Dump on to jelly pan to cool.
