"George gave me the basic recipe (meat, soup and sloppy joe mix) and I took it from there. This is a tinkerer's dream. You can do anything you want to this recipe to suit your tastes. I serve this every year for my New Year's Day party and it goes fast."
In large crock pot or electric roaster, combine sloppy joe mix, water and soup. Brown the hamburger in 1 lb. batches. Drain each and add to the roaster/crock pot as cooked. During the browning of the last batch, add the onion and cook as before, draining as usual before adding to the rest. Add the tomato sauce, stirring well. Cook on low for 4-6 hrs., on high for 3-4 hrs. I always cook this the day before, cool it good, then heat it back up in the roaster the day I serve it. It looks like it's going to be too "wet", but all the liquid gets absorbed and it has a very nice consistency.
