"This green bean recipe is just plain easy to make--and delicious, too! I was in high school when I first made this recipe for the German Club pot luck dinner. They were a hit! My family loves them so much I've been making them ever since."

  1. Fry the bacon in a cast-iron skillet until just brown and crisp, making sure not to burn it; remove to paper towels to drain.
  2. Add the onion to the bacon drippings and cook until they begin to turn a yellow-ish color. Stir in the flour to absorb all the grease. You should add a little more flour than you think you'll need, so that the sauce will be thick enough.
  3. Next, add the liquid from beans, the vinegar, the sugar, and the salt and pepper. (I usually add Bacos and some paprika at this point as well.) Let this boil for about 3 to 5 minutes, or until thick and bubbly. You can stir, but there is no need.
  4. Stir in the green beans and cook until heated through, about 3 or 4 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle crisp bacon on top.
