  1. Melt butter in a small soup pot; saute' the onion until tender. Whisk in the flour; blend until smooth. Gradually add the chicken broth; stir constantly for 1 minute.
  2. Add the carrots, almonds, wild rice, minced ham and sherry.
  3. Season with salt.
  4. Slowly add the half & half. Heat slowly. Serve in soup bowls and garnish with chives or parsley.
