"This is our family favorite side dish, especially at the holidays or family celebrations. Even people who say they hate onions seem to like these. This is really great as a side dish for ham or poultry."
Peel onions and cut in half. Place cut side up in casserole. Combine butter, water, sugar and spices; pour over onions. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 1/4 hours until onions are tender, basting occasionally.
NOTE: Because my oven is very busy and full at holiday time, I have done these in my crockpot. I cook them on high for 4 hours.
