Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich


"I always make this sandwich after the holidays when I can get get ham right off the bone. Any other time of the year, I get thick cuts from my local deli. This is my daughter's favorite sandwich and I usually reserve it for special occasions. Please note, this is a heavy sandwich. If you don't like sourdough bread, substitute one that can take the weight. Enjoy :)"

  • Cook

  1. Combine first four ingredients, set aside.
  2. Place a slice of colby cheese on each slice of sourdough bread. Add one slice of ham (or two for thin cut) to each sandwich.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, grill until bread is golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.Butter skillet as needed.
  4. Remove sandwiches from skillet.Add 1 tbsp of apple-nut mixture to the middle of each sandwich before serving.
