One Week – Six Dinners – Just $100 Menu Reviews - Allrecipes.com (Pg. 4)

This is an excellent idea to plan ahead your menu. In my family these recipes are not enough food, we will eat a soup for entree then the main course such as a piece of meat, rice, a salad, or a vegetable. That small corn and black bean salad that is suggested in your menu planning is only a side dish for a main course meal. Need to create better menu planning with all the necessary components for a proper dinner, remember most people only eat dinner at home and a small salads is not enough for a family of four.

Great idea but I try very hard not to use prepared or boxed ingredients. I don't mind frozen veggies or canned tomatoes but prepared frosting or boxed mixes is not for us. I really love your dinner spinne, I use it all the time. BRAVO

I think it's a great, practical weeknight menu. When your whole family of 4 is home all weekend, though, that pretty much doubles our weekly grocery budget. For me, a One-Week Menu is 5 weeknight dinners and 6 weekend meals! Thanks for sharing the tasty, budget-friendly menu. :-)

Awesome plan. Tweaked a bit for our family, but really great ideas. Love how it incorporates left-overs!!

I like this idea and even on my budget, I find it very feasible. I think some of the reviewers on here are missing the point to this and that is to recycle the 'leftovers' to save money. I don't even really view it as 'leftovers' because you're creating completely different recipes every day of the week. For those complaining it's not feasible for 2 people; yes it is. Cut the recipe in HALF, therefore only buying HALF of what is called for. And, as others have mentioned, price is going to very greatly depending on where you live.

the menu notes state: With a little careful planning, you can feed the family 6 delicious meals for under $100! She can cut this in thirds, so to speak, and have meals for 2 for $33.00--freeze what's freezable, use your canned/frozen veggies, pick up what's on sale and "sail."

I use this site a lot for recipe ideas, but I agree with the others in that 100 bucks a week for meals like this is unrealistic. I have a budget of 50 dollars a week for my husband and I, for every meal, drink and snack in our home. Most of the time I don't go over this, and I'm able to make fairly decent meals. But when you are truly on a budget, you don't get to be as picky. As someone else had mentioned, you buy the fresh ingredients when they come on sale, and make what you can from whatever is cheap that week. I also agree that the lack of meat is not very appealing either. We have tried to drastically cut down on red meat, but I am still able to make pork chops, pot roast, small hams and turkey breasts on my budget. I think the reason this article insulted some people is that it makes allrecipes seem like they don't understand the gravity of a lot of families' situations, and how hard Americans really are struggling to not only put food on the table, but for it to be fairly decent food too. Just my two cents though.

I gave this plan a 4 out of 5 because it uses more expensive processed foods. To truly be a budget saving plan, and more delicious AND nutritious, by making things like the crescent rolls from scratch and the brownies as well, you not only cut out artificial ingredients, but save lots of money too! Pudding can be made at home too, or substituted with homemade gelatin using plain Knox gelatin and fruit juices. It's a good start though!
