Types of Wine: Sangiovese

Meet the starring grape in Chianti, the silky, food-friendly wines of Tuscany.

Food-friendly Sangiovese

Sangiovese's refreshing acidity and nice tannins make it a terrific friend of food, with flavors and aromas of cherries and violets.

Sangiovese-based wines like Chianti are classic partners with pizza and tomato-based pasta dishes.

Sangiovese and Meats

Sangiovese-based wines also pair great with grilled meats and poultry, particularly meats that are seasoned with red wine-friendly herbs like rosemary and sage. Broiled T-bone steak and wild boar are two classic regional dishes from Tuscany.

Fresh Produce, Soups, and More

Try Tuscan reds with seasonal produce and soups made with dried beans like cannelloni and toscanelli.

Other Sangiovese-Based Wines

Sangiovese makes other Tuscan wines besides Chianti. Look for it in bottles labeled Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino.

Outside of Italy, look for Sangiovese that come from California and Washington.

      I think I am going to like this sight,it's got everything that I need to watch my weight and to try a variety ways of cooking.

      I love this feature of the wine pairings with the meal but could you also do side dishes. I get a main dish going and the hardest part for me is finding the most complimentary side dish or vegetable. Tonight wasn't bad because with pasta dishes that have meat it's usually a salad but even to have a specific recipe for a salad for a specific dish and then the wine suggestion also....PERFECTO! Thank you for all you do!
